What if I fade the song out halfway thru? (lame).
That's the usual fix and it's an "OK" solution. The song fades out halfway through the chorus. You stop dancing because you're not sure whether it's over… and then the room gives you that half-clap.

How do I shorten a song for my wedding?
Have somebody edit it properly, by eliminating a verse or a long instrumental stretch. Done right, the song starts the way it always starts, ends on its real ending, and finished, is around two minutes long.
The other way is to fade it out halfway through. That works (sort of) but it's an awkward moment that doesn't have to happen.
Can you shorten a first dance song, or is this only for parent dances?
ANY dance you want. Mostly, I edit family dances (father/daughter and mother/son), because those are the ones that run long and get uncomfortable. But first dances, anniversary dances, and grandparent dances can be edited, too.
One thing worth saying: a lot of couples keep the first dance at full length, so your photographer has plenty of time to capture the moment (they'll thank you).
How long should a father daughter dance be?
About two minutes. Long enough to be the special moment it is, but short enough that nobody gets bored. Full length songs usually run four or five minutes, and this service brings them down to that perfect length.
Do I have to supply the song?
Technically, yes, you are "supplying" the song to me. Although you do not have to email me the actual file of the song, you DO certify that you already own the song (or that you are buying the song). I'm not selling you the actual song file.
How does this work with copyright?
You are paying for the LABOR to edit a song that you already own (or are buying) for this service. You are not purchasing any music from me. I am only editing what you certify that you already own.
Can you change the tempo, the words, or take lyrics out?
No. This is a SHORTENING of the song, done on professional audio equipment. I'll typically take out a verse or two, or an extended instrumental portion with precision edits. The song starts as expected, and it ends the way the original does.
Can I ask for an exact final length?
No, and here's why. Every song is built differently, so where it can be edited is decided by the song. I aim to keep it between 1:45 and 2:15. Sometimes it lands slightly over or under, all based on the song you choose.
Why not just fade the song out?
You can, and plenty of weddings do. Here's what that sounds like: the music fades away somewhere in the middle of the song. Then, the two of you stop and look at each other, and the room isn't sure whether to clap yet. This keeps the REAL ending with no awkward moments of your guests just staring at you.
How far ahead should I order?
Standard delivery is within 21 days, so give yourself three weeks or so. If your wedding is closer than that, take the expedited option and you get it within 7 days.
What do I get, and how do I get it?
I'll send you one edited MP3 of your song, by email. Send it to whoever is playing the music that night (your DJ, a laptop, a phone, or tablet). Nothing to install and nothing to figure out.
